Bristol based singer songwriter Jane Taylor (www.janetaylor.co.uk) is coming to the Alton Maltings to perform a very special Valentine’s concert and jointly help raise funds for Key Changes Music Therapy – a local charity (www.keychanges.org)
Local resident Julian Fisher came across Jane Taylor on a visit to Dartmouth when she played at their annual music festival. Instantly captivated he would later appreciate why the music press, numerous radio DJs and industry pundits across the country love her songs. She is quite likely the best kept, worse for it, secret.
Her work in the debut album Montpellier won huge acclaim and was followed by the staggering piece of work, Compass. But who knew? This is a massive industry focused on a few leaving the greater good, the genuine and talented artists to struggle.
Moved by her powerful lyrics and music and having just come out of a long term relationship Julian found himself scribbling a story from the first track to the last. Later turning the treatment into a movie script and a title that shared the album’s, Compass. Why this happened is best explained through one of the pundits...
'Jane Taylor is no ordinary singer songwriter. She has this intangible magic in her voice. The kind that draws you in and holds you right there until the moment you notice that you've forgotten to breathe and then you hear her words (which bizarrely seem to have been written for you), and stand there transfixed like it’s a bit of fate that brought you here. I will defy anyone not to leave without a cd or at least humming one of her songs' - Get Rhythm.
Whilst some have films made based on life Compass did not require anyone to ‘cut off their right arm’ (hic - 127 Hours)... instead it is a tragic love story with a bitter sweet ending that is simply about life. So, if Danny Boyle is free after the 2012 Olympic opening ceremony..?
Supported by her devoted fans and an ingenious fund raising campaign (see her website) we can all help and enjoy seeing a truly talented, a very special and gifted singer breakthrough.
In addition to signed CDs, pictures and other merchandise you can contribute funds by writing a song with Jane, earn backstage passes, even have Jane perform a gig in your living room! Best of all you can arrange a gig in your town or village and share her incredible talent whilst helping raise much needed funds.
Jane will be perform a number of songs from her albums and a special Valentine’s rendition on 12th February at the Alton Maltings (doors open from 7pm). Tickets cost just £10 - please call 01420 81950 or 829410 for further information.
